Private Tutoring and Educational Therapy Services

Private tutoring for children with learning needs

While Designed with a Purpose specializes in meeting the needs of children with dyslexia, ADHD, and anxiety, we are also available to privately tutor children who do not have a diagnosis but may need more focused work in a specific subject area or need homework assistance.

We specialize in private tutoring in the following areas:

  • Reading intervention using the Orton-Gillingham method

  • NILD Therapy

  • Math instruction (from elementary math up through high school algebra and geometry)

  • Search and Teach methods for processing skills

  • After-school homework assistance and study skills for elementary through high school students including

  • ACT and SAT prep

We have found that consistency is key and recommend one to two one-hour sessions per week. Each week your tutor will update you on what material was covered and any notes on what can be worked on at home.

Depending on tutor availability and schedules, our tutors can meet with your child:

  1. On their school campus during the school day pending approval

  2. At Designed with a Purpose's facility in Greenville (during the day or after school)

  3. Online

Most instruction happens one-on-one as we find that this allows the tutors to give their undivided attention to the student as well as allow individual needs to best be met. However, on occasion, students who attend the same school and are working on a similar curriculum may meet in small groups. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Parent Coaching Services

We understand that as a parent it can be a daunting task trying to navigate school accommodations, locate resources and assistance following a diagnosis, as well as college planning. We are available to meet and listen to any concerns you have about your child's learning needs, review accommodations with you, meet with you and your child's school to discuss accommodations, and refer you to the many educational/behavioral psychologists, schools, counselors, and additional resources in the Greenville area. â€‹

Parent Testimonial

Mrs. Irwin was an excellent tutor. She stepped right in with my fourth-grade son and made a huge difference! His area of struggle is reading comprehension. Mrs. Irwin gave him multiple tools and resources to help him not only during their tutoring session but at home as well. She is very easy to work with and communicates well. Mrs. Irwin was definitely a bright spot near the end of a tough year!"
